Ohio leads the nation in Biobased product procurement policies

Ohio Biobased Product Procurement Program – Bill Passed
Governor Ted Strickland signed S.B. 131 on February 27, establishing a preferred purchasing program for biobased products in Ohio. With the legislation, Ohio becomes the first state in the country with such a program requiring Ohio’s state agencies and state-supported colleges and universities to purchase biobased products when available. Modeled after the USDA BioPreferred program, a certification process will identify approved biobased products. The bill is anticipated to take effect May 2010.
